In February, I'm going to blog about things I love. Anyone care to join me?
One of things I love is DIY. Do it Yourself! Maybe because in an alternate reality, my family would've been pioneers on the prairie. Why buy anything that you could make? with stuff you already have? I've always had to be thrifty, so that feeds into it, too. In fact, I think a lot of what is considered all that is "green" is actually just plain ol' thriftiness.
I'm so excited to have Heather Ross's new book arrive in the mail today: Weekend Sewing: More Than 40 Projects and Ideas for Inspired Stitching. I think it's one of my favorite books yet. I've been a huge fan of Heather Ross fabrics, and this book is going to be so fun to combine with them.
Ellis's school offers a service called the Shared Reading Program, wherein a Deaf person comes to your home and helps you learn how to read a book in ASL to your child. We signed up just before the holidays. At first one of E's teachers, who was also our Deaf mentor awhile ago, had been coming.
It's been a great experience so far, a huge boost to our ASL skills. One of the biggest
It discusses the anatomy and physiology of the first few minutes of a newborn's life. What happens as they exchange breathing through the umbilical cord to breathing through their lungs. It's really cool!!
I don't know why I am even blogging about this, since it will likely end up in a fruitless ramble and totally uninteresting. It just rolls around in my head all the time. I'm always thinking about "when I get back into research/into a PhD program". I'm not working on anything now. Not a thing. Quiet moments I steal for sewing. It feels more productive, and it has instant gratification status. Something research doesn't have. I don't feel gratified about my thesis and the stupid thing is signed, sealed, and delivered.
The title kind of says it all. It's about a mother and her interactions with her toddler doing art things, resources for the rest of us, art ideas, art concepts, and the philosophy of doing art with children. They have weekly art playdates with other toddlers. I love it because it partly explores what is developmentally appropriate for their age, developing their own sense of creativity.
